Genealogy Workshops Announced for February

2013-01-17 09:32

In February, HSP will continue its series of genealogy workshops with two new programs. These workshops will be held on Wednesday evenings and begin at 6:00 p.m. They are all open to the public and cost $15 each but are FREE for members. So if you're not already a member of HSP consider joining today.

The first workshop will be Searching For Your Jewish Family on February 13. Fred Blum, president of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Philadelphia, will share techniques to track down Jewish ancestors. Blum, a licensed private detective, has been researching his own family since 1998 and located more than 1,200 relatives dating back to 1810 in the United States, Canada, Ukraine, and Israel. He will also discuss his work in locating Holocaust survivors for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. A handout will be distributed with useful Internet research sites.

Then on February 20 we will present Buon Giorno: Italian Records Research. Have you exhausted research in the United States looking for your Italian ancestors and want to know what records in Italy might help you continue your search? At this seminar, learn more about what types of records are available for Italy, where to find them, how to read them, and how to use them to extend your Italian family history. This workshop will be taught by Larry S. Fermi, a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists who has been performing in-depth family history research since 1989 with a focus on European immigration during the peak periods of the 19th and early 20th centuries.

I hope to see you there!
