So you have found the occupation of your ancestor, now what? Ancestral occupations can give clues to who our ancestors were, how they lived, where they lived, and most importantly, give them individual identity and personality. The sources that identify occupations are numerous. Church records, city directories, census records, wills, and land records are just a few that may list professions.  Part two in our series of genealogy workshops.

 


Speaker's Bio: Nancy Lee Waters Lauer is an award-winning author, researcher, lecturer, and teacher. She published a book on her paternal grandmother’s family in 1996, The Huhn, Pestorf, and Steck Families (Heart of America Genealogical Society Award of Excellence). In 2006 she published a book on her husband’s family, Lauer, Borgmeier, and Bauer Families (NGS Award for Excellence). She has published several articles in the Maryland Genealogical Society Bulletin and Family Tree Magazine. With over 20 years experience as an IT professional Nancy is a certified Microsoft professional. She has developed training programs, written training manuals, and conducted training classes for an international community.
