This year we are gearing up for National History Day with a plethora of new sources and resources for both teachers and students, including our 5th annual FREE NHD Philly kick-off event for teachers. This year’s theme is Exploration, Encounter, Exchange and we are excited to highlight some of our collection that we feel fits best with the theme. While these examples are by no means everything in our collection, they will help students think of new and exciting topics for their projects.

Exploration, Encounter, Exchange is a unique theme as it allows students to focus their topic on all three words or just choose one or two. It also allows students to think more about themes outside of American History and look at our connection to the world around us. This theme truly lets students explore new territories and expand their horizons. To see the full list of resources and primary sources we suggest for students, please visit the National History Day portion of our website and remember to check-out and show your students our brand new NHD video!

We also encourage all teachers, both returning NHD participants and those looking to implement it for the first time, to come join us at our NHD Kick-off on October 13th from 4:30-7:00pm here at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. This workshop will provide all the tips and tricks to make sure your classroom can implement a successful National History Day program.  The program is free, but we do need you to register.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
