“Mad Men” Cocktail Party at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania
“Don” your best Mad Men attire for a night of classic cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and music! Get a firsthand look at mid-century documents from the collection of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania (HSP), and immerse yourself in the glamorous world of commercial consumerism.
A Mad Men Cocktail Party, presented by the Young Friends of HSP, will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, November 21, at the Society’s library at 1300 Locust Street, Philadelphia. Tickets are $20.
Hors d’oeuvres will be provided by Tria Café, along with cocktails made from Philadelphia Distilling’s Penn 1681 Vodka and Bluecoat Gin. Philadelphia Brewing has also provided beer and Commonwealth Cider for the event.
HSP will present a display of mid-century advertisements showcasing everything from alcohol to exotic travel destinations culled from its collection of over 21 million documents. This display will hold clues to a scavenger hunt. There will be prizes awarded for the best dressed guests. There will also be a raffle (tickets are $5 or $20 for 5).
The Young Friends of the HSP is a group of young adults between the ages of 21 and 45 who share a common appreciation for history. Through a variety of social and educational events, the Young Friends make history fun and relevant in today’s world. Proceeds from the event will support HSP’s Adopt a Collection program, to fund the organization, description, and preservation of collection materials. Through the Adopt a Collection program, the Young Friends have raised more than $4,000 to date and adopted four important collections, including the Society's Trade Card Collection. Through their efforts these collections will become more accessible to the public.
