The Historical Society of Pennsylvania (HSP) invites you to a baseball scavenger hunt on Thursday, September 15 at 6 p.m. It’s this season’s best double header! The event, presented by the Young Friends of HSP, will showcase some of the Society’s finest baseball documents, including turn-of-the-century baseball cards, old photos from Shibe Park, score cards from the Pythian Base Ball Club, 19th-century sporting goods catalogs, and much more. Guests who compete in this document-based scavenger hunt will have the chance to win fantastic prizes.

The evening’s reception will feature wine, cheese, beer, and snacks provided by Tria. During the reception, HSP will show the short film Base Ball: The Philadelphia Game from History Making Productions, a film production company founded by Sam Katz and based in Philadelphia. Members of the Athletic Base Ball Club of Philadelphia will be in attendance wearing their authentic 1860s uniforms. Based in Fairmount Park, the team revives the amateur traditions of the Athletic Base Ball Club, originally founded in 1859, in a period before professional leagues.

The Young Friends of HSP will also hold a raffle on the night of the event. The grand raffle prize is two tickets to the September 17 Phillies game in the Mayor’s Box. Other raffle supporters include Modern Eye, Valanni, Kyber Pass Pub, and Lux Spa and Fitness.Raffleprices are $5 for one ticket or $20 for five tickets.
