The American Helicopter Museum, Ebenezer Maxwell Mansion, the Newtown Square Historical Society, and New Hope Historical Society volunteer Roy Ziegler are among the honorees for the second annual History in Pennsylvania “HIP” Awards. The awards will be presented at the History Affiliates Reception on October 24, 2013.

The Historical Society of Pennsylvania (HSP) has begun a two-year project to enhance description and discovery of its graphics materials and promote the linking and sharing of content among institutions and scholars. This project was funded by a grant HSP recently received from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission’s Innovation in Archives and Documentary Editing program.

This fall, HSP will continue its series of genealogy workshops with three new programs. These workshops will be held on Tuesday evenings at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania and begin at 6 p.m. They are open to the public and cost $15 each but are FREE for members.

Two Pennsylvania teachers were selected as winners of the Teaching Thrift Curriculum Development Contest, sponsored by the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. Arlene Haigh, the grand prize winner, and Susan Condor , the runner-up winner, received their awards at the Creating Thrift Curriculum Teacher Institute, held at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania in July.

Nominations are now being accepted for the second annual History in Pennsylvania “HIP” Awards, which will be presented at the History Affiliates Reception on October 24, 2013. Nomination forms are available here.

The Historical Society of Pennsylvania has begun a $5.7 million renovation project to its building at 1300 Locust Street to expand collection storage, upgrade security, and improve the visitor experience. The renovations are expected to last through October 2013.

During the renovations, the research library will remain open; however, the main entrance on Locust Street will be closed, and visitors will enter the building through the 13th Street entrance.
