This preservation project is supported by a grant from Wells Fargo, which traces its lineage back to this important institution proposed by Robert Morris and Alexander Hamilton and chartered by the Second Continental Congress in 1781. 11/15/12 Banking
HSP Acquires Diaries of Civil War Veterinary Surgeon The Historical Society of Pennsylvania recently acquired two collections related to siblings George F. Parry and Susan Parry, two pioneering medical professionals from Bucks County, Pennsylvania. George F. Parry was one of the first college-trained veterinary surgeons to serve during the Civil War. His diaries provide detailed and vivid accounts of his duties and daily life in the field as well as civilian life after the war. Parry’s sister, Susan Parry, was one of the first trained female physicians in the state and a graduate of the Female Medical College of Pennsylvania. 11/12/12 Civil War Science and Medicine	Archival Prints from HSP Collection Now for Sale Now you can own a piece of history. Historical Society Receives Grant from Mellon Foundation to Survey Small Archives The Historical Society of Pennsylvania (HSP) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in support of Phase II of its Hidden Collections Initiative for Pennsylvania Small Archival Repositories (HCI-PSAR). The goal of the HCI-PSAR project is to make better known and more accessible the often hidden archival collections held by the many small, primarily volunteer-run historical organizations in the Philadelphia area. 10/2/12	Bartram’s Garden, Wharton Esherick Museum, and Others to be Honored at First Annual HIP Awards Luncheon Bartram’s Garden, the Wharton Esherick Museum, the Concord Township Historical Society, and the Friends of the Japanese House and Garden are among the honorees for the first annual History in Pennsylvania “HIP” Awards. Historical Society of Pennsylvania to Preserve Documents Tracing the Story of American Freedom Several of the country’s most significant documents will get new life and increased visibility thanks to a joint effort between the Historical Society of Pennsylvania and Bank of America. Titled “Preserving American Freedom,” the project will transcribe and annotate historic documents, including a handwritten draft of the U.S. Constitution, to allow for more sophisticated searching and analysis. 6/25/12	Free Document Display To Commemorate War of 1812 June 18 marks the 200th anniversary of the start of the War of 1812, a three-year battle between the United States and Great Britain.
