Research Tips

If you're planning a visit to HSP to conduct research in our library, you may want to do some homework first to help make efficient use of your time here.

First, check out our Overview of Research Tools for more details about how to find the materials you seek in HSP's large collection. This resource will explain more about HSP's online catalog, Digital Library, finding aids, subject guides, card catalogs, Reading Room databases, and more. Please note that some of these research tools are available online, but others will be available only after you arrive at the library.

You may also want to check out Discover, our online catalog. It includes information about HSP’s print materials, manuscript collections, maps, microfilm, and more, and is the best place to start for most users.

When you arrive at HSP, a Reference Librarian can provide a brief orientation, and will be available throughout your visit to answer questions.

Good luck!
