Pride [and Prejudice]

Immigrants often balance  pride in their heritage  with assimilation to the culture of their new homes.  This struggle is sometimes more difficult as there is friction between different ethnic groups.  Often, one group is afraid that another may upset their social or economic stability.. For some people, these experiences- negative and positive – empower them to boldly assert their ethnicity and race.
