King Andrew the First

Dated to the early 1830's, this cartoon depicts President Andrew Jackson as a king, wearing coronation robes, holding a scepter, and standing before a throne. The bottom tag line reads, "Shall he reign over us, or shall the PEOPLE RULE?" The image was create by anti-Jacksonian opposition in response to the President's hostility towards the Bank of the United States and disregard for Supreme Court rulings.
