Gary Nash discusses the evolution of the Liberty Bell from a statehouse bell into an international symbol of freedom.

Dr. Nash, Distinguished Research Professor in the Department of History at UCLA, earned his Ph.D. in History from Princeton University. He has won various awards including the American Historical Association (Pacific Branch) Best Book award in American History for his book Quakers and Politics: Pennsylvania, 1681-1726, and the Distinguished Service Award from the Organization of American Historians. His research interests include early American history and issues of race and class in early American history.
