This Indenture…
John Henry Coats…and with the consent of his father Samuel Coats…John
Humphries, Cordwainer, and his assigns…him the said John Humphries…nine years
and seven months… Cordwainer… apparel… nine years and seven months, to teach
him to read the Bible, to write and cipher the Rule of Three and at the expiration
give him the usual freedom dues and a set of tools…dated 29th of May, in the 23rd
year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second, 1750.
