The Book and its Arts highlights the Historical Society of Pennsylvania’s wide range of collections that relate to the craft of book making. From papermaking to printing, and from lead type to calligraphy, the collections of HSP boast many firsts in this field. On display are the first bible printed in North America, the first type specimen book printed in North America, the first map of Philadelphia with it’s engraver’s plate, Dard Hunter’s Old Papermaking, examples of Pennsylvania Dutch calligraphy, some 150-year-old zines, and so much more.
