Genealogical research, defined as “the study or tracing of lines of descent,” is more commonly described as “discovering your family history.” But documenting and understanding family history also requires researching and understanding the historical context in which ancestors lived. From family photographs to soldiers' vivid accounts of life on the battlefield, see samples of the kinds of records used by family historians in their research: published family history books, immigration records, church records, and military records.
