Education

HSP is committed to working with teachers and students to help them learn American history and historical thinking skills. HSP's vast collection provides content for lessons connected to academic standards - from the founding of the nation through the twentieth century.

Education staff have designed unit plans and collected primary sources from HSP's collection that can be used by teachers in the classroom, including several dedicated to immigration issues.

Browse Unit Plans based on primary sources found in HSP's collection, or create your own lesson plans using curated sources. For a broader discussion of teaching with the collection, Topical Guides are also available.

HSP offers programs and workshops throughout the year for educators, many of which confer Act 48 Continuing Education credits.

To explore HSP's collection in-person with your class, learn more about scheduling a field-trip and library orientation. Education staff also offer outreach programs, bringing history alive in your classroom.

Students: need help with homework or doing a research project? See how HSP can help. HSP has a trove of primary sources, hints on how to use and cite them, information on National History Day, and more. HSP's after-school Student Mentor program provides a "research buddy," thanks to the support of Enterprise Holdings Foundation.
