Position Summary:

The Historical Society of Pennsylvania seeks individuals who wish to gain practical experience in a professional educational setting. The internship is developed on an individual basis and every effort is made to match the intern’s interests and expectations with the tasks assigned. College or graduate school students interested in experience with K12 education in historical organizations have a variety of projects on which they can work at HSP.  They may help develop curriculum for distribution via the web, and/or they can work either directly with students who come to research at HSP individually or with classes.

Position Requirements:

For educational internships, HSP gives preference to candidates who has a background in formal or museum education, strong primary source research  experience, and expereince working directly with students. All prospective interns must have strong research, writing, communication, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work well independently and a willingness to learn. Interest in american history is preferred.

To Apply:

All candidates must submit a cover letter and resume. They must also visit HSP for an interview and pass a background check. Interns who are receiving class credit for the internship must meet the requirements of the home department and make sure HSP staff knows about the requirements as well. The ideal candidate is available on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday mornings and/or Tuesday-Friday afternoons 2:30-5:30 pm. All interns should expect to work at least 10 hours a week.

Term: Internship applications are processed on a rolling basis. Internships can be one-year in length, or semester-based (fall, spring, summer).
