Title: Imaging and Metadata Technician (Temporary, 1.5 year)

Summary of Position:
The Imaging and Metadata Technician is responsible for capturing archival-quality digital images selected for a CLIR grant highlighting women’s rights activism between 1820 and 1920, in celebration of the centennial of the 19th amendment. This grant project, In Her Own Right, will involve digitally photographing and scanning selected collection materials, carrying out basic post-imaging work such as minor color correction, basic metadata creation and editing. This is a full-time, 40-hour/week position that will run from May 2018 to September 2019.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Perform digital image capture, conversion, and preservation of historic graphics and manuscript materials using photography and scanning equipment.
- Carry out post-imaging work, including minor color correction, cropping, and other necessary adjustments using Adobe Photoshop.
- Maintain quality control standards for digital images and records.
- Develop workflow and instructional guides to assist with the In Her Own Right project.
- Assign descriptive, administrative, and technical metadata to images and link images to their associated catalog records in HSP’s Digital Asset Management System (DAMS).
- Increase visibility and facilitate use of HSP’s collection materials surrounding the In Her Own Right project through web, social media, and blog posts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and/or its equivalent required. A minimum of one year related digital imaging experience required. Past experience in an archive or special collections library preferred. Must have demonstrated familiarity with digital conversion technologies (experience with Hasselblad digital camera and Epson scanning equipment desired), software (Adobe Photoshop), and archival material care and handling. Knowledge of metadata standards used in digital collection building (e.g. DACS, Dublin Core, etc.) and Collective Access and Archivists’ Toolkit a plus. Must have excellent interpersonal skills, and exhibit the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
