In November 1763, surveyors Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon arrived in Philadelphia to settle a dispute between the Penn and Calvert families over the boundary between their two proprietary colonies, Pennsylvania and Maryland. Join the Historical Society of Pennsylvania as we revisit this influential moment with our guest speaker—writer and historian Barnet Schechter—who will present "Dividing the Land, Uniting a Nation: George Washington, the Mason-Dixon Line, and the Mapping of America".
Members of the Treasures Society and their guests are invited to attend this lecture followed by a reception and document display.
Tickets are available to non-Treasures Society members for $25.
