Discover innovative, interdisciplinary ways to teach about Philadelphia's Yellow Fever epidemic of 1793, a topic all too relevant to today's news of Ebola. Participants on September 27 will gain teaching ideas and classroom-ready materials as they explore ways to use media and primary sources with elementary and secondary students. Content will be structured around Pennsylvania  Core Standards and will include a lecture from Reverend Mark Kelly Tyler, Senior Pastor at Mother Bethel AME Church, on the critical role Richard Allen played in combating Philadelphia’s Yellow Fever epidemic. Participants will be introduced to the Historical Society's new educational materials on Yellow Fever as well as access to History Making Production's documentary and educational resources.

Act 48 credit, lunch, and discounted parking will be provided. Attendance will be limited to 50 teachers, so register now!  To receive discounted parking, you must use the Parkway Garage at 1201 Walnut Street.  Bring your stub into HSP with you to receive a voucher.
