The new education initiative at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, HEAD for the Future, in partnership with Wells Fargo, includes professional development for teachers, with several fantastic events coming up. Our first event, here at HSP, is called Genius of Freedom exploring African Americans in Philadelphia before, during, and after the Civil War. This program is in partnership with the Library Company of Philadelphia and will explore topics such as the Underground Railroad, the Emilie Davis Diaries, African American voting rights, and more! In addition, attendees will get to see the Library Company’s new exhibit Genius of Freedom. This event is taking place on February 28th, so please register soon by checking out the calendar event here and clicking "register now" button on the right hand side.
Please download this PDF for a list of all of our upcoming events specifically for teachers. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.
If you have not already heard, HEAD to the Future (history, education, and documents) promotes document-based learning in the K-12 classroom by providing teachers with primary sources from HSP’s extensive collection through online, outreach, and in-house programs. Through our education portal, you can access ready-made lesson plans as well as thousands of primary sources, and with this initiative, those resources will keep expanding.
