About the speakers

Moderator                  

Dr. Christina Larocco is editor of the Pennsylvania Magazine of History and Biography and scholarly programs manager at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. She researches, writes, and speaks about women’s history and the history of social movements.

Panelists                     

Dr. Michael Long is a faculty member in the Religious Studies Department of Elizabethtown College and is the author and editor of several books on civil rights, politics, and religion, including a collection of letters belonging to Bayard Rustin.

Dr. Amy Rutenberg is a faculty member at the Department of History at Iowa State University. Her work looks at the anti-war efforts throughout modern history and she has conducted research into the work of the American Friends Service Committee in anti-war efforts and draft resistance.

Dr. Tracy E. K’Meyer is a faculty member of the History Department at the University of Louisville. Her research covers modern social movements as well as progressive faith-based activism. Her current research is on the work of the American Friends Service Committee’s efforts in housing integration and development.


This program is part of a commemoration of the 300th anniversary of the death of William Penn, who is intrinsically linked to the establishment of Quakerism in Pennsylvania.
