Artist Curlee Raven Holton has created Sublime Narrative of Self-Emancipation, a 44-page artist book comprised of eight prints interleaved with vellum pages of images from the Historical Society of Pennsylvania’s collections. Book includes an introduction by David R. Brigham, Librarian and CEO of HSP and a written artist statement. Book construction by MaryAnn L. Miller. Holton has produced an edition of 15 books, each one 15”x9”. Each book contains a colophon signed by Holton and Miller. Holton focused his work on HSP’s collections surrounding abolitionist records and the legacy of spirituals to illuminate narratives of resistance and liberation.
Also available for purchase are eight large prints of the images in the book. They are each printed on Rives BFK 100% rag paper that measures 22”x 30”
