After nearly 3½ years working on the Small Repositories Project, the time has come for me to say good-bye. I'm more than a little sad to be leaving HCI-PSAR prematurely (Phase III will end April 2016), even though I'm delighted to be accepting a new position at the Friends Historical Library at Swarthmore College. It gives me some solace to reflect on my accomplishments as HCI-PSAR Senior Project Surveyor, so I hope you'll indulge me here.
In the past 3½ years, I personally have:
- surveyed at 141 repositories
- assessed more than 2.5 miles of archival materials
- contributed to more than 1,100 finding aids
Phew, that's a lot of surveying! Luckily, I had a lot of help from fantastic colleagues who made the work not only achievable, but fun. My most heartfelt thanks go out to Jack, Andrée, and my co-surveyors Sarah (2013-present), Faith (2012-2013), and Michael (2011-2012), for being such good co-workers and good friends.
One of the best parts of my job has been getting to know so many members of the local history community. I've been humbled by the passion and dedication of the hundreds of repository staff and volunteers I've met over the past several years. I hope your experiences with the HCI-PSAR project were as rewarding as mine has been!
Of course, while today is my last official day working on HCI-PSAR, I'll never completely release the project from my talons' grip. Soon, I'll transition to serving on the Steering Committee. (May I presumpuously suggest the title "Surveyor Emeritus" for myself?) I'll keep up with project updates through the project's Facebook, Twitter, and this blog. I will also continue to lurk on the Pennsylvania Small Archives mailing list (you can join, too, by sending a blank email from any email address to pa-small-archives-subscribe@yahoogroups.com).
Thank you, dear reader, for indulging this nostalgic blog post. I hope my path will cross with many of yours in the near future!
Best,
Celia
