There is very little that has been left unchanged these past three years, even at a place like the Historical Society of Pennsylvania--an institution dedicated to preserving pieces of the past. There is an air of immutability around certain organizations like HSP (which will celebrate its 200th birthday in just two years) that unfortunately lends itself to the idea that history itself is a something stagnant, mired in the recesses of time and condemned to irrelevancy. Of course, as educators, we are all too aware of the ramifications of not fully interracting with and understanding history, or the belief that what has happened has no bearing on what is happening, or what will. Yes: history happened hundreds (and thousands, and millions) of years ago. But, it also happened yesterday. It kept happening today. And it will happen tomorrow.

History demands us be dynamic--and so must the ways we engage with and teach it be. That is why we at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania are incredibly excited for the new ways we have on offer for educators to connect with us and our resources. From opportunities like virtual learning, to an upcoming summer institute, to the ability to have a hand in shaping future lessons from HSP, there are more ways than ever to make history yours.
