Programs Associate Chris Damiani discusses some of the Fort Mifflin prints and photographs from various collections at HSP. Fort Mifflin played a vital role during the American Revolution and afterward was nicknamed "The Fort that Saved America." For more information on these images, please visit the Digital Library. Stories From the Archives: The Countess of Pembroke and Geomancy

Project Archivist Sarah Newhouse discusses the book The English Countess Mary of Pembroke's Rare Secrets of the Wonderful Art of Geomancy from the Abraham H. Cassell collection. Geomancy is a form of divination that analyzes the pattern of a handful of earth thrown down at random or dots made at random on paper. Stories From the Archives is a video series in which an HSP staff member highlights one of his or her favorite items from the collection.

Archivist Cary Majewicz-Hutto discusses family pet photos found in the Fenton and Remak family papers. A predecessor to “Lolcat” pictures, these early 20th-century photographs include pets in various poses and dressed in costume. Picturing History

Photographs can tell a lot of stories, if you know how to read them. On April 11, 2012, HSP's Photograph Conservator D'Arcy White presented a lecture titled "Picturing History" on the art of reading photographs. Using examples from HSP's collection, White discussed how to study photographs and dig deeper than their first impression.
