The Historical Society of Pennsylvania is seeking two Fellows to develop educational materials and conduct teacher workshops. Applications are due by April 30. Details about each fellowship are below:

Beneficial National History Day Fellow (180 Act 48 credits)

The Beneficial NHD Fellow will work the educators and librarians of HSP to prepare materials for students in the 2012-2013 NHD competition. Using the national theme as a guide, the Fellow will search our collections for relevant material and create resource guides for our website. In addition, the Fellow will assist in preparing for the NHD Philly Kick-off Event and conduct a teacher workshop in the fall about using HSP resources in NHD.

Freedom Fellow (180 Act 48 credits)

In January 2013, HSP will launch a new digital history project focusing on about 50 of our collection’s treasures that speak to the story of American freedom.  Freedom is a powerful word; American history has been filled with struggles to define, allow, enforce, and balance the freedoms of different peoples.  HSP’s collection contains some of the seminal documents related to this theme as well as more personal accounts of how freedom (or the lack thereof) has impacted individual lives.  The Fellow will work with the project staff to develop educational materials to assist students and teachers use these primary sources and related interpretive material.  In addition, the Fellow will conduct a teacher workshop in the winter on how to use this new digital resource in the classroom.
