The successful Thrift Teacher Institute of last summer will be offered again this year! For five days in July (July 14-18), teachers of all grades and disciplines may join together at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania to learn about thrift. We will explore its historical roots and contemporary applications in ways that integrate the subject into lessons in history, civics, family & consumer science, financial literacy, and language arts.
Applications are due by Friday, June 14, but the sooner you register the better your chances! The Institute itself is very thrifty form of professional development. Those you complete the course will receive back their application and housing deposits, making the Institute virtually free. Travel stipends are even available for those traveling from beyond a 30-mile radius of Philadelphia.
Teachers who win the Teaching Thrift Curriculum Development Contest are automatically enrolled in the Institute, do not pay deposits, and will have a special behind-the-scenes experience. The contest deadline is May 15.
