Virtue, Liberty, and Independence?” Incarceration in Pennsylvania History document display opens on November 12. From letters of late eighteenth-century reformers hoping to “[alleviate] the miseries of public prisons” to posters demonstrating late twentieth-century activism against police violence, HSP’s collections highlight many aspects of the history of incarceration in Pennsylvania. The display runs through January 6, 2020 and is free and open to the public during regular business hours.
