On Saturday, October 1, Penn’s Graduate School of Education will host Networked for Literacy: a Celebration of Writing and Literacy, providing a space for educators to share how literacy shapes practice, students, schools, and communities.
The Celebration of Writing and Literacy is an annual one-day conference presented by and for Philadelphia educators. This year's event is focused on connecting with and across Philadelphia teacher networks and is presented in partnership with the Philadelphia Education Fund and Philadelphia Teacher Convenings. Workshops address all grade levels and content areas, use of technology, writing across the curriculum, building professional learning communities, and literacy strategies that support the Common Core State Standards.
Along with staff from the National Archives and the National Museum of American Jewish History, HSP's Education team will present at 3:15 to 4:15 in Rm. 200, sharing how they use writing from different periods of history to teach narrative, informational, and persuasive writing. Attendees will be encouraged to think creatively about where else to find historical sources and introduced to ideas for using these sources to teach writing through interactive exercises, discussion, and take-home resource guides.
Join HSP's Education team and teachers from across Philadelphia for a day of idea sharing, community, and celebration.
