Small Archives Forums was a series of FREE programs designed to explore archival concepts and build connections among Philadelphia area small archives. The forum series aimed to teach new archival skills, but more than that, it aspired to foster community among small archives and lay the groundwork for ongoing knowledge-sharing and cooperation. February 9, 2015 | Behind-the-Scenes Tour. This tour, customized for an audience of small repositories, offers attendees the opportunity to meet staff of various departments at HSP, learn about typical workflows, and ask for advice on specific questions. |
February 25, 2015 | Symposium for HCI-PSAR Participants in Delaware and Chester Counties, presented with the Delaware County Historic Preservation Network. Please join us as we share the findings of the HCI-PSAR project’s work with Delaware and Chester county repositories, discuss next steps for participating repositories, and provide useful information to help you in managing your archival collections. |
March 27, 2015 | Processing 101: An Introduction to Basic Archival Arrangement and Description. This workshop will offer hands-on education in the arrangement, description, and re-housing of archival collections. It will be led by a Manuscripts Cataloging Librarian from the University of Pennsylvania. Registration is limited to one person per HCI-PSAR-participating repository. |
April 21, 2015 | Digitization Panel. In addition to an overview of key topics and best practices for starting a digitization program, this event will showcase innovative digitization projects in place at HCI-PSAR-participating small repositories. *This event will be repeated in other locations TBD |
June 19, 2015 | Preservation Program: This program will provide a basic overview of preservation practices, focusing on environment and collections care. Best practices will be introduced in a "Good, Better, Best" approach, presenting participants with practical ways to implement improvements with the resources they have on hand. |
| July 27, 2015 1:00-3:00 pm Margaret R. Grundy Memorial Library | How Policies Can Help: Crafting Collection Management and Development Policies. Having strong collections management and development policies can help small archival respositories as they accept new material and expand their collections. Dyani Feige of the Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts will present on the importance of these policies and what should be included in them. In addition, Grundy Memorial Library staff will present on how policies have helped them shape their collections. |

A special event for American Archives Month, HCI-PSAR is joining with the William Way LGBT Community Center and the Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts to encourage members of the community to save their personal archival collections. This workshop will provide attendees with suggestions and advice on how to best organize and preserve their personal collections for the future. |

April 20, 2016 | End of the Project Symposium. Alas, all good things must come to an end, and the HCI-PSAR project will be concluding in spring 2016. Join us as we celebrate project accomplishments and review findings from five years of surveying collections at over 170 Philadelphia-area small archival repositories. HCI-PSAR staff will highlight significant collections uncovered during the project, participating repositories will discuss success stories at their institutions, and public historians will speak about projects they have undertaken and the role of public history in the community.
