Judith Schweyer birth and baptismal certificate

Date: 1782

An ornate style of lettering and illustration, Fraktur is closely associated with Pennsylvania Germans. Descendants of these 18th-century migrants were keen to trace their family histories, although doing so often meant relying on resources developed in Germany during the National Socialist (Nazi) era. See Katharina Hering, “Palatines or Pennsylvania German Pioneers? The Development of Transatlantic Pennsylvania German Family and Migration History, 1890s–1966.”
