Hosted by actor Sam Waterston, the documentary series Visionaries highlights the rarely told stories of nonprofit organizations around the world working to make a positive difference in their community and beyond.
Wishing to explore the unique challenges and opportunities facing historical societies in an increasingly all-digital world, the production selected the Historical Society of Pennsylvania (HSP) from hundreds of applicants in recognition of its innovative conservation, digitization, and education practices.
“Now in our 20th season, we capture stories that move beyond just “good works” to present really powerful replicable models that could inspire change in every community in the nation” says Visionaries’ executive producer and founder, Bill Mosher.
“Viewers will be astounded to discover people just like them who are changing the world in ways they can replicate in their own cities and towns. That is the really exciting thing...we are spreading positive solutions across the country,” Mosher continued.
HSP is eager to share its behind-the-scenes work of preservation, access, and interpretation with the broader community. Join WHYY, PlanPhilly, and HSP for a screening of the episode on Wednesday, November 11 at WHYY's studio in Old City. For parking information, please click here.
A panel discussion hosted by Ashley Hahn, Interim Managing Editor of PlanPhilly, will follow the screening, featuring:
- George Boudreau, Assistant Professor of History at La Salle University
- Bill Mosher, Creator, Director, and Producer of Visionaries
- Patrick Grossi, Director of Advocacy for the Preservation Alliance of Greater Philadelphia
- Page Talbott, President & CEO of HSP
Attendees will also chart a century of changes to Philadelphia via historic photographs of the city from The Philadelphia Record – a now shuttered daily newspaper – many of which have been “hidden” for decades.
The screening and panel discussion are free and open to the public. Please register here.
HSP's episode will air on WHYY on Sunday, November 15th, at 2 p.m.
